U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R) from Montgomery announced on Tuesday that she was appointed the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and investigations for the powerful House Armed Services Committee.

Congresswoman Roby said “I’m grateful for the opportunity and responsibility to chair the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.  It is a tremendous honor to chair a subcommittee, particularly one so critical to ensuring our military operates with efficiency and effectiveness.  Now is a crucial time for our military. The ever-changing landscape means more uncertainty for our warfighters and policymakers at the Pentagon. It is as important as ever that the House Armed Services Committee fulfill its military oversight role and make sure we provide for the common defense of this great nation. I look forward to working with Chairman McKeon and my colleagues on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations in this new capacity.”

Chairman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R) from California said, “I am honored that Congressman Roby has agreed to chair the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. I know she will bring the energy and attention to this job that she has already brought to her work on the full committee.  O&I is a vital part of the Armed Services Committee’s oversight mission, compelling the military to address difficult truths and informing our legislative approach as we help overcome tough issues.  I know that under Martha’s leadership, O&I will continue to serve this important role well.”

On Facebook Rep. Roby said, “Honored to be named Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. It is a great responsibility to chair a subcommittee, particularly one so critical to ensuring our military operates with efficiency and effectiveness, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. With both Fort Rucker and Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base located in the 2nd District, I will continue to have a seat at the table for important conversations regarding the future of our nation’s military. I look forward to working with Chairman McKeon and my colleagues on the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations in this new capacity.”

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations conducts studies and investigations to prevent waste, fraud, abuse and inefficiencies within the Department of Defense.   Subcommittee Chairman Roby promised to continue working diligently to ensure the proper oversight of the Department of Defense.

Congresswoman Roby represents Alabama’s Second Congressional District.  This is just her second term in the United States Congress.
