October is Busy Month for the GBYR

The Greater Birmingham Young Republicans (GBYR) plan a busy schedule during the month of October.

On Thursday, October 8, the Republican Groups will hear from Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington (R) at their regular October Meeting.  The GBYR have made electing Republicans in Jefferson County a special focus in 2016.

The regularly scheduled meeting will begin with a social at 6:00 p.m.  Commissioner David Carrington’s address will begin at 6:30.  The meeting will be at: SideBar on 2929 7th Avenue South; Birmingham, AL.

Carrington’s topic will be: “Seeing Jefferson County Through My Eyes”

GBYR Chair Jackie Curtiss wrote; “Please join us for the October meeting of the GBYRs. Commissioner Carrington will give us an overview of Jefferson County after bankruptcy. Commissioner Carrington wants to show us that Jefferson County is open for business!  At this meeting, we will announce current candidates for GBYR officer positions.”

The Alabama Young Republicans (YRs) are also planning a “Day of Action.” YRs from all over Alabama are invited to a day dedicated to community service and conservative values on Saturday, October 17.  Service opportunities that day include: a cemetery clean up and American Flag placement on the graves of veterans; police appreciation celebration and cookout with the Montgomery Police Department; and collecting food items, winter coats, and books for Montgomery school children.  Football viewing will be available all day.  If you have any questions or would like to RSVP contact GBYR Chairman Jackie Curtiss at [email protected]. 

The GBYRs this month are preparing and serving dinner at the Salvation Army Birmingham on Monday, October 19th at 2130 11th Avenue North from 4:45 pm to 6:30 pm.  Chairman Curtiss said that the GBYRs need five volunteers for this project.  For more information or if you would like to volunteer email Jackie.

Annual GBYR officer elections will be held at their November 12th meeting.  If you are interested in running for a position or nominating another member for a position contact Nominations Chairman Joel Blankenship at [email protected] 

Available positions include: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, State Committeeman, State Committeewoman, County Liaison, and Sergeant at Arms.  It would be preferable that you contact Chairman Blankenship before Thursday’s meeting.
