Moore Campaign says Doug Jones is too liberal for Alabama

Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) was in Birmingham campaigning for Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Doug Jones  on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Roy Moore for U.S. Senate Campaign, Bill Armistead, said, “Today, we are witnessing the beginning of a clear contrast between Judge Roy Moore, the conservative voice for Alabama, and Doug Jones, the liberal voice for big government.  Doug Jones has been trying to fool Alabama voters into thinking that he is really one of them, but he has shown his true colors by bringing in President Obama’s Vice President to campaign for him and raise money for his campaign.  Jones’s embrace of Joe Biden reveals his true colors as a supporter of the Obama-era policies that have put the long-term safety and security of America at risk.”

Chairman Armistead continued, “Let’s consider the following major issues facing America today:  Obamacare.  Doug Jones is a proud supporter of Obamacare and a fierce opponent of repealing this disastrous socialized health care system.  Obamacare is estimated to have put hundreds of thousands of people out of work, increased the cost of health care, and increased taxes on hard working Americans. Our economy has been struggling under the burden of Obamacare since its inception, and it has created more bureaucracy and massively increased the national debt. Doug Jones has made it clear that he will continue to fight President Trump in his effort to repeal Obamacare.  Judge Moore has been clear about Obamacare. He doesn’t believe that the government belongs in the health care business and will vote to repeal Obamacare.”

“Securing the Border.  Under President Obama and Vice President Biden’s direction, the White House issued executive orders to circumvent constitutional restraints and arbitrarily attempted to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.  This action constituted a dangerous expansion of government power and established a policy that degraded the rule of law.  Doug Jones is just another big government liberal who will continue in his support for the Obama-Biden policy on immigration.  Judge Moore supports President Trump’s plan to secure our borders and build a wall on our southern border,” Chairman Armistead wrote.

“Liberal Judges.  The judicial activism of the United States Supreme Court and the lower federal courts is immediately traceable to Obama-era appointees like Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.  If Doug Jones were elected to the Senate, he would join forces with his Senate leaders like Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren in opposing President Trump’s nominees and advocating for additional activist judges.  Judge Moore will support strict constitutional conservatives for the Supreme Court in the mold of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia,” Armistead continued.

Armistead added, “Abortion.  Doug Jones has advocated for Planned Parenthood, and just this past week, he went on the record stating without hesitation that a woman should have the right to an abortion all the way up until the day before the baby is delivered.  This is an outrageously extreme position that is further to the left than even some of the most liberal abortion-rights activists in the country.  Doug Jones has proven himself to be completely out of step with Alabama values and mainstream America.  Judge Moore believes in the sanctity of life and opposes the taking of the life of an unborn child.”

Armistead concluded, “Alabamians are opposed to the job-killing, budget-busting policies of the Obama-Biden administration that Doug Jones embraces.  His invitation for Joe Biden to come to Alabama to campaign for him is a clear signal that if Jones were in the Senate, he would work hand-in-glove with other liberals like Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren. Replacing Senator Jeff Sessions with Doug Jones would be akin to replacing President Trump with Al Franken.  Doug Jones can never fill the shoes of Jeff Sessions.”

Currently the U.S. Senate is divided 52 to 48.  Adding another Democrat would make it 51 to 49, which would make it much more difficult to confirm President Donald J. Trump’s nominees and pass any of his agenda items.  No Democrats supported any of the myriad of Obamacare repeal and place plans that the President tried to pass and since the President could not get at least 50 of the 52 Republicans to support repeal the law remains on the books, even though the President and GOP members of Congress pledged to repeal the controversial legislation.

Alabamians elected President Trump 63 percent to 35 percent over the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.  No Democrat has won a U.S. Senate race in Alabama since 1992 when Richard Shelby was re-elected.  He changed parties in 1994.  No Democratic candidate has won any statewide race in Alabama since 2008 when Sue Bell Cobb won Chief Justice over a Riley appointee and Lucy Baxley won President of the Public Service Commission.

Doug Jones is a former U.S. Attorney during the Administration of President Clinton.

Jones and Moore will be on the special election ballot on December 12, 2017.
