On Monday, August 15, the Alabama Republican Party closed candidate qualifying for Alabama House of Representatives District 41 at 5:00 p.m. CDT.

The only candidate who qualified to run for the vacant District 41 seat was Corley Ellis.

Corley Ellis represents Shelby County Commission District 1.

He is from Columbiana, where he is the owner/operator of Ellis Properties.

According to their website: “Ellis Properties, Inc. is a full service Real Estate Brokerage firm that specializes in farms, acreage, timber and land development in Shelby County and central Alabama. We also market and sell residential properties.”

According to his bio: “Corley is a Shelby County native and graduated from Shelby County High School in Columbiana. He then attended Auburn University where he earned his BS Degree in Business Administration in 1993 and his Masters in Business Administration in 1995.”

Corley Ellis has been in Real Estate since 1995 and has owned, and operated, Ellis Properties Inc. since 2000.

No Democrats qualified for this seat longtime GOP seat.

Since there will be no House District 41 Primary as planned for October 18, according to the timeline we received from Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (R), the Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.

All independent candidates and/or any minor party candidates wishing to get ballot access had a filing deadline for all of the appropriate notification, petitions, or supporting paperwork with the Secretary of State by Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at 5:00 p.m.

At press time we don’t know if there is a qualified independent or minor party candidate.

If elected, Commissioner Corley Ellis will finish the remainder of Mike Hill’s term in the Alabama House of Representatives and will face re-election in 2018 with the rest of the legislature.

The District 41 vacancy was created when Gov. Bentley appointed Rep. Mike Hill (R-Columbiana) to be the Superintendent of the State Banking Department.
