Real Hope for America

Staff Report

From the office of Bill Armistead, Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party

On Tuesday, November 6th, Alabama voters will join other voters across the country as they head to their polling place to cast their ballot to elect the next President of the United States. I’ve lived through many elections, and have seen many Presidents come and go, but I can honestly say that this is the most important presidential election in the history of our nation.

When this great nation was founded, it was based upon the principles of liberty and limited government. Our Founding Fathers knew firsthand the dangers of an overly-powerful, ever-encroaching government. Indeed, they had just finished a war to rid themselves of such a government. Just consider this phrase from the Declaration of Independence: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations…evinces… it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

It is a shame that the same government that was created by people who believed so strongly in the above words is now being run by those who seek to control the governed, instead of being controlled by the governed. Yet, this is the road we are on, and I fear that if we do not reverse our course, American Exceptionalism may become a dream lost forever to future generations.

Don’t allow that to happen.

Under the Obama presidency, the last four years have been hard for many Alabamians. Chances are that you have a friend or family member has been unable to find a job. Or perhaps you’re the one who has been or is currently unemployed. Thousands of families have lost their homes. We have all had to tighten our belts as we struggle to make ends meet with record high gas prices and sky-rocketing grocery bills. College graduates face an uncertain job market and a mountain of debt.

Right now, things seem desperate. But I believe that there is hope, because I still believe in the American people.

And so does a man named Mitt Romney. He is ready to restore America to its future greatness by providing us with what we need most – the freedom to pursue our own liberty and happiness. He knows that in order for small business owners to once again begin expanding and start hiring workers, they need stability from their government and relief from the crushing burdens of over-regulation and high taxes. He believes that American students deserve the best education and American workers deserve the best training. He knows that energy independence is not just a matter of creating jobs – it’s vital to our national security. And Romney knows that if we don’t stop Washington, D.C.’s runaway deficit spending, we will be bankrupting our children’s future.

Americans are ready to go back to work and show the world that we truly are the world’s leader in innovation and sheer determination. We just need our government to remember that it’s about “We the People” and to get out of our way. Romney knows this and he is ready to put control back into the hands of the people, where it should have been all along.

Across Alabama, there are Republicans on the ballot who are ready to stand with Romney and help him implement his plan for prosperity. They are going to make sure that those 12 million jobs that will be created over the next four years under a Romney Administration will help return Alabama to full employment. These Republicans stand with Romney because they believe the same thing he does – America’s finest years still lay before us.

I urge you to stand with these Republicans who are running to serve you in your county courthouse. Stand with our Congressional candidates and our State Board of Education candidates. Stand with Roy Moore in his bid for Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Stand with Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh as she seeks to become our new President of the PSC. They need your vote in order to make sure Alabama implements smaller, smarter and simpler government at every level.

One thing is certain – we cannot continue down the destructive and demoralizing path upon which Obama has steered us. It’s time for new leadership in the White House and it’s time for new leadership in Alabama’s courthouses. I urge you vote straight ticket Republican and let’s get Alabama back to work.
