Alabama moves to sue opioid manufacturer Purdue for alleged role in deadly opioid crisis

Alabama is suing on of America’s largest drug manufacturers for allegedely jeopardizing public health and safety through shoddy opioid marketing and sales practices.

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the legal action Tuesday.

The AG’s Office filed the lawsuit against Purdue Pharma, Purdue Frederick Company Inc. and Rhodes Pharmaceuticals — which are collectively known as Purdue — for violating the Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

Purdue is one of the most active opioid makers, manufacturing brand names like OxyContin, MS Contin and Targiniq ER, along with other generic opioid drugs — all of which are at the center of a nationwide opioid epidemic.

New Socialist Party is chartered in Auburn

The Socialist Party of Eastern Alabama, a chapter of Socialist Party USA, announced that they were officially charted in Auburn on Friday.

The groups said that this is, “A collective effort to fight for equality against the rising tide of white supremacy we were seeing on campus at Auburn University.”

SPEA claims that they were, “Established by comrades from various walks of life – local activists, educators, students, engineers, artists, veterans and wage laborers – all interested in improving the lives of the disenfranchised, exploited and oppressed peoples of Alabama”
