Thursday, January 11, 2018, the Donald Trump Administration granted waivers to ten states (Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah and Wisconsin) from the federal government to implement work requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients.  Medicaid is an enormously expensive entitlement that costs both the states and the federal government billions of dollars.  Republican Gubernatorial candidate Scott Dawson asked:  “Why isn’t Alabama on this list?”

Palmer Says that We Should Get our Fiscal House in Order

Wednesday, March 16, US Representative Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) voted to pass the Republican budget out of the House Budget Committee, where he is a member, but says that he will not support it on the floor of the House unless changes are made.

Congressman Palmer released a written statement after the House Budget Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2017 Budget. Rep. Palmer said, “My vote for the budget in the Committee today should not surprise anyone. I kept my word to the Chairman that if I were placed on the Committee, I would support moving the process forward for full House consideration.”

Brooks Critical of Omnibus Bill

On Thursday, December 17 U.S. Representative Mo Brooks (R from Huntsville) criticized the compromise Omnibus spending bill to keep the government funded through 2016 that Congress is poised to pass before it breaks for Christmas.  Brooks warned that the bill would quadruple H-2B visas and fund Syrian refugee resettlement in America.

Congressman Brooks said, “Tomorrow, Congress will once again be forced to vote on a hastily thrown together $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that is 2,009 pages long, that very few Senators and Congressmen have had the time to read much less fully understand, that no one was allowed to amend on the House floor, and that further undermines America’s solvency.”

Byrne Says Entitlement Programs The True Drivers of Debt

Congressman Byrne said in a statement: “We are already over $18 trillion in debt, and little has been done to rein in our out-of-control spending…Our nation’s means based entitlement programs must be reformed. These programs are the true drivers of our national debt, and they are slowly becoming insolvent. For example, last week a report revealed that the Social Security disability fund will run out of money as early as next year. Congress must get serious about reforming these programs.”
