U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, will be in Birmingham on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. Sen. Rubio reportedly will endorse state Rep. Will Ainsworth for Alabama Lieutenant Governor.

“Come hear Senator Marco Rubio’s endorsement of our campaign on Thursday. The campaign is sponsoring the first 50 people to get in for free to the Reception. It starts at 6:00 PM and goes until 6:45 PM. It is located at the East Hall on the 3rd Floor in Meeting Room 3. Let us know if you would like to come,” Rep. Ainsworth said on social media.

State Rep. Will Ainsworth holds on to fundraising lead in Lieutenant Governor race

The race for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor is highly competitive with no clear front runner as the candidates all work on establishing name recognition with voters.

The candidates all reported competitive fundraising in October.  Will Ainsworth, Rusty Glover, and Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh have all declared that they are running for the office in the 2018 Republican Primary.

State Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, had a beginning balance coming into October of $1,058,437.65.  Ainsworth reported cash contributions of $45,075.  Ainsworth reported expenditures of $15,2034.79 and line of credit expenditures of $1,336.96 for an ending balance of $1,088,277.86.

Friday, state Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, announced that he is backing U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore for the U.S. Senate. Ainsworth said that Moore will work to rebuild a strong military and ensure that soldiers and veterans are treated with respect.

“I am honored to offer my enthusiastic endorsement to Judge Roy Moore and his campaign for the U.S. Senate,” Ainsworth said. “Judge Moore embraces and fully supports President Trump’s agenda of repealing Obamacare, lowering taxes on working Americans, protecting our borders, and ensuring we have a strong military with active soldiers and veterans who are treated with the respect and deference they deserve.”

Zeigler opposes bills ending special elections for US Senate, Alabama Legislature

Sunday, state Auditor Jim Zeigler announced his opposition to bills that would end special elections when there is a vacancy in the U.S. Senate and the Legislature.

Currently, Alabama is holding a special election for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Jeff Sessions.  Republican Roy Moore is running against former U.S. Attorney Doug Jones on Dec. 12. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley had appointed Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange to fill the seat.

State Sen. Rusty Glover kicks off campaign for Lieutenant Governor

Thursday, state Sen. Rusty Glover, R-Semmes, held an official Kicks Off Campaign rally for the Republican nomination for Alabama lieutenant governor.

“I’ve been serving the people of my district, and now I want to serve all the people of Alabama,” Glover said.

Glover said that his focus will be on accountability and transparency in state government, and bringing good-paying jobs to the state.

“I want to make the Legislature open to all people, looking out for all Alabamians and not just the select few,” Glover said.

Twinkle Cavanaugh endorses Roy Moore for US Senate

The Roy Moore for U.S. Senate campaign announced that Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh (R) has endorsed Moore for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Jeff Sessions (R).

Cavanaugh said in a statement, “Voters across this nation overwhelmingly rejected the failed policies of the Obama era last November when they elected Donald Trump as President of the United States.  I am confident that the people of Alabama will send the same message to Washington this December when they elect Judge Roy Moore to the United States Senate.”

Rumor about Justice Glenn Murdock has hint of truth

Rumors are part of the stock-in-trade of Montgomery politicos, and this past Friday it churned out buzz that Supreme Court Associate Justice Glenn Murdock was going to make a big announcement by day’s end.

In an attempt to run the gossip to ground, The Alabama Political Reporter called Murdock in the early afternoon. After leaving a voicemail, the clock ran out at 5 p.m. with no announcement – after 5 p.m. on a Friday, the only news from the political world are stories they want people to ignore.

State Rep. Ainsworth raises over $1 million in Lieutenant Governor’s race

State Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, has raised more than $1 million in the Lieutenant Governor’s race making his campaign funds the top in the race.

In a press release from his campaign, Ainsworth said his campaign attracted supporters from around the state of Alabama. He said he was “deeply grateful” for the support.

“I am determined that our campaign will have the resources necessary to be highly competitive in the Republican primary, a run-off if one is necessary, and the general election, and this finance report shows we are keeping that commitment,” Ainsworth said.

Alabama Forestry Association endorses State Rep. Will Ainsworth for Lieutenant Governor

On Saturday evening, a packed house at Guntersville City Hall celebrated with State Rep. Will Ainsworth as he announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor.
