Thursday, the campaign for lieutenant governor became heated when Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh took a shot at opponent state Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, for his association with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida.

“On Thursday night, apparently the Representative running for Lieutenant Governor will be holding a high-dollar, closed-door event with his great friend, Washington Insider Marco Rubio,” Cavanaugh said. “This is the same Marco Rubio that is tight with Mitch McConnell and the DC Swamp; the same Marco Rubio that was a member of the Gang of Eight with the likes of John McCain and Jeff Flake working for amnesty for illegal immigrants; the same Marco Rubio that admitted he disagreed with Jeff Sessions on immigration policy.”

“Expanding the child tax credit is the right thing to do,” Roby said at a news conference promoting the proposal. “For the people I represent, this can make a big difference. For that mom working a retail job or the dad driving the truck or the parent working two or three jobs so the other one can stay home – having a couple thousand dollars in your pocket is a big deal.  I promise you parents know how to spend that money better than the government does,” Congresswoman Roby said.

INSIDE THE STATEHOUSE
by Steve Flowers

In 1960 television was a new medium. Most Americans did not have televisions in the early 1950’s. However, by 1960 the majority of the country had fallen in love with Lucy and TV.

The parties were controlled by longtime political pols and insiders. Powerful governors and senators would control their state delegations at the nominating conventions and would yield inordinate power at a critical point in the process.

On Tuesday, March 8, Republican voters in Michigan and Mississippi went to the polls and gave New York City businessman and reality TV star Donald Trump crushing victories over his remaining GOP Primary opponents. U.S. Senator Ted Cruz did manage to score one victory in the Idaho Caucuses.

Donald Trump said, “I have never endured so much horrible horrible things about me in a week. $38 million of negative things have been said about me…It shows you how brilliant the public is. They knew they were all lies…I want to thank the people of Michigan. I want to thank the people of Mississippi… One thing I was so happy about is that the turnout has been just incredible. Millions and millions of people have come out on the Republican side and the Democrats are down 30 percent. I think it is the biggest story in politics today. We have had people coming over here that have never voted for Republicans before.”

The next president will need to take steps to rebuild our military and be tasked with reenergizing the U.S. economy so our nation can return to its natural position of preeminence.
