An open letter to Alabama’s Christian Community: “You are being played”

Dear Alabama Christians,

In my 50 years of following national political races I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one as strange as the current U.S. Senate race in your state.

First, we had the national Republican Party in the September Senate run-off working against the state’s more popular candidate Judge Roy Moore in favor of their establishment candidate, and former D.C. lobbyist, Luther Strange. The D.C. Republicans flooded Strange with money only to see him lose by a significant 9-point margin.

Trump tacitly supports Moore, doesn’t want “liberal person” in Senate seat

President Donald Trump commented on Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore on Tuesday after staying silent on the matter personally.

Trump was walking across the White House lawn when reporters asked him to comment on Moore and the impending election less than three weeks away.

“We don’t need a liberal person in there—A Democrat,” Trump said on the senate seat. “Jones, I’ve looked at his record. It’s terrible on crime. It’s terrible on the border. It’s terrible on the military.”

Strange: Write-in campaign “highly unlikely”

U.S. Senator Luther Strange, R-Ala., said pursuing a write-in campaign is “highly unlikely” on Tuesday according to multiple media outlets.

Strange’s comments come after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested a write-in campaign to oppose Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore’s campaign. In a Wall Street Journal interview, McConnell suggested that former U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions would make a good write-in candidate.

Alabama Chairman Terry Lathan told members of her party that anyone encouraging such an action would be thrown out of the party.

Moore picks up support from Legislators

US Senate Candidate Roy Moore recently picked up endorsements from 13 members in the Alabama Legislature.

Moore praised the endorsements and said that he was honored to have them standing with him in his campaign.

“They are fighting the good fight here in Montgomery, and their support is continued evidence that our conservative message is resonating with more and more Alabama voters,” Moore said. “I look forward to working with them and having them behind me as we take the fight for Alabama values to DC”
