Alabama Senate moves to make “upskirting” illegal

The Alabama Senate on Thursday voted unanimously to pass a bill that would make a voyeuristic act known as “upskirting” a felony.

If passed by the House and signed into law, the legislation, sponsored by Sen. Clyde Chambliss, R-Prattville, would make it illegal for anyone to take a photo of a woman’s intimate areas by sneaking a phone under her skirt.

“It’s the beginning of the processes of justice for a lot of victims,” Chambliss said Thursday. “It’s a very emotional issue for them. They feel defiled, invaded, their privacy. It may be a public place, but we wear clothes to protect our privacy.”

Bill to take ride-hailing services statewide makes it out of committee

A bill that could bring ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft statewide is a step closer to becoming law after a Senate committee Thursday voted to give the bill a favorable report.

Senate Bill 143, sponsored by Sen. Bobby Singleton, D-Greensboro, and Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, R-Anniston, could be up for a vote within the next week after the Senate Committee on Tourism and Marketing voted in favor of the bill Thursday.

APR is Simply The Right Fit

So, here I am.

Unless I’ve failed to remember correctly, this will be the first column written that I’ve written in at least 15 years that won’t appear in The Montgomery Advertiser. I am surprisingly happy about that.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s incredibly weird to be out of the newspaper world, but I also feel pretty good about where I’ve landed.

I think The Alabama Political Reporter is a fantastic news outlet that has quickly climbed the media ladder in this State. If you doubt that, flip on talk radio and listen to the babbling heads criticize APR while simultaneously ripping off the website for material and news.
