Commission for “Ethics Reform and Clarification” is pure fantasy

A Senate joint resolution creating The Code of Ethics Reform and Clarification Commission sponsored by Republican Senators Arthur Orr, President Pro Tem. Del Marsh and Majority Leader Greg Reed has been submitted to the Rules Committee and could be making it’s way through the Senate soon.

Creating a commission to reform and clarify current ethics laws sounds like a reasonable undertaking until it’s understood that the underlying premise is to weaken much of existing laws.

CQ Roll Call’s 50 State Project Asked APR to Name Top Policy Issues in Alabama

MONTGOMERY—For the third year in a row, our Editor-in-Chief, Bill Britt, has been asked to weigh-in on CQ Roll Call’s 50 State Project. The report, which is issued nationwide, asks political reporters from all 50 states to name the top 5 policy issues confronting their states.

As CQ Roll Call points out, “So far this year, states have passed 19,313 bills to Capitol Hill’s 150. That’s a lot of legislation.” With that in mind, CQ Roll Call recruited more than 52 local reporters and policy observers and asked them one question: “What are the top 5 policy issues in each state?”
