A few months back the Jefferson County Republican Party honored our Senior U.S. Senator, Richard Shelby. It was held at The Club in Birmingham. The view from atop Red Mountain from this elegant club is spectacular, especially at night from the ballroom. The glass enclosure allows you to see the grandeur of the Birmingham skyline. As you glimpse at the scene you can see many of the buildings that are the heart of the University of Alabama/Birmingham.

Shelby touts successful test of Missile Defense System

Tuesday, May 30, 2017, the US military successfully tested its highly touted ground based missile defense system, against an actual inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM). US Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) praised the accomplishment.

Senator Shelby said on social media, “Great news for our country and for Huntsville! Yesterday the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), based on Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal, successfully intercepted and destroyed an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) target during the first live-fire test of MDA’s Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) system. The GMD is designed to stop missiles – such as North Korean missiles – during the midcourse of their flight through space. This is critical in defending our homeland from US adversaries.”

House Passes Defense Appropriations Bill

Wednesday, March 8, 2017, The US House of Representatives passed of HR1301, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017. The Legislation passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 371 to 48.

US Representative Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) wrote, “The House passed the Fiscal Year 2017 Defense Appropriations bill. As a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I’m really pleased with this bill. It’s a big win for the military on both a national and local level.”

Shelby Attends MSIC Groundbreaking in Huntsville

On Monday, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R) from Alabama attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Missile and Space Intelligence Center’s (MSIC) new Explosive Ordinance Exploitation (EOE) complex.

Senator Shelby said in a written statement, “By drawing upon the capabilities of MSIC and the organizations and associated technology base in the Huntsville area, our nation stands better prepared to defeat a wide variety of threats.   I remain committed to MSIC and will continue working to ensure we provide the resources necessary to support their mission for many years to come.”

Brooks Explores Ways to Advance STEM Education

Last week Congressman Mo Brooks (R) from Alabama released a statement following a field hearing the the subcommittee on Research and Science Education held in Madison, AL.  Rep. Brooks is that Chairman of the committee.  Rep. Daniel Lipinski (D) from Illinois is the ranking Member of the subcommittee.  The purpose of the hearing in Madison was to explore local science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs and partnerships. The hearing was titled STEM Education in Action: Local Schools, Non-Profits, and Businesses Doing Their Part to Secure America’s Future.
