U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, will be in Birmingham on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017. Sen. Rubio reportedly will endorse state Rep. Will Ainsworth for Alabama Lieutenant Governor.

“Come hear Senator Marco Rubio’s endorsement of our campaign on Thursday. The campaign is sponsoring the first 50 people to get in for free to the Reception. Judge Myron Thompson rules two Alabama abortion laws unconstitutional

Thursday, U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson has ruled that two Alabama abortion laws are unconstitutional. The ruling blocks the state from enforcing these laws.

The first law prohibits the licensing or renewal of a license of an abortion clinic within 2,000 feet of any K-8 public school. The second law banned an abortion procedure known as dilation and evacuation. This is the most common method used in the second trimester.

Court Rules 12-Year-old girl in State custody can have abortion without parental consent

Wednesday, July 19, 2017, the Alabama Appeals Court upheld a lower court’s decision to grant a parental consent waiver for an abortion to an unidentified 12-year-old girl, who claims she become pregnant after being raped by a family member.

This ruling occurred even though the local District Attorney objected to the abortion, no family member signed, and the girl is in custody of the State of Alabama’s Department of Human Resources.

Alabama Supreme Court rules that unborn children are “human beings”

MONTGOMERY—Friday, December 30, 2016, the Alabama Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of the plaintiff in a wrongful death lawsuit against an OB/GYN accused of contributing to the death of a woman’s unborn child.

The court found that the trial court erred in dismissing Alabama resident Kimberly Stinett’s claim alleging the wrongful death of her unborn baby and granting summary judgement in favor of Karla Kennedy, M.D., on lack-of-proof-causation grounds. Read More

Senate Health Committee Gives Favorable Report to Abortion Bill

On Wednesday, April 20, the Senate Health Committee voted to give a favorable report to SB363, the Alabama Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, which was sponsored by state Senator Phil Williams (R-Rainbow City).

Dismemberment abortions involve introducing a sharp instrument into the womb to grasp and pull the unborn child out, piece by piece. The child is cut up alive during this process and dies of bleeding out during the dismemberment process. SB363 would ban the practice in Alabama. The State’s abortion providers would be forced to use more human methods to terminate the preborn.

Pro-Life Forces Urge Leadership to Act on Pro-Life Legislation

On Wednesday, April 20, the Alabama Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act will receive a public hearing in the House Health Committee. HB376 was sponsored by state Representative Mack Butler (R-Rainbow City).

A Senate version of the same bill (SB263) was sponsored by State Senator Phil Williams (R-Rainbow City) and is also having a public hearing on Wednesday, this in the Senate Health Committee.

Committee Gives Favorable Report to Fetal Heart Beat Bill

Wednesday, March 9, the Alabama Senate Health Committee voted the Fetal Heartbeat Bill out of committee with a favorable report after a short public hearing where opponents derided the bill as unconstitutional.

State Senator Gerald Allen (R-Tuscaloosa) sponsored the legislation, SB9.  Allen said that he is trying to reduce the abortion rate in Alabama.  Allen said that the bill requires that a physician must determine if a heartbeat is present and requires written documentation for all of the procedures.  Allen said that there were exceptions involved for an entopic pregnancy or where there is a threat to the life of the mother.

Planned Parenthood Rallies to Stop Pro-Life Legislation

Wednesday, May 20, Planned Parenthood led dozens of protestors in front of the Alabama State Capital to protest pending Pro-Life legislation being considered by the Alabama legislature.   

Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Helen Cox wrote in a statement, “Since the Alabama legislative session began in mid-March, the attack on Alabama’s women and families has been relentless. Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates is fighting back alongside supporters, volunteers, and partners to ensure their voices are heard.”

Pro-Life Bills Get Favorable Report

Wednesday, May 6, the Alabama House of Representatives Health Committee gave a favorable report to a package of bills aimed at regulating abortions in the State of Alabama. The committee approved HB405, HB491, and HB527 in the House.

Alabama Citizens for Life Spokeswoman Cheryl Ciamarra told the Alabama Political Reporter, “Alabama citizens for life would like to see a ban on dismemberment abortions like Kansas signed into law, a limit on licensing abortion providers within 2000 feet of schools (many fear ACA will lead to Planned Parenthood eventually running clinics inside schools in Alabama) and a total ban on any type of abortions if fetal heartbeat can be detected: HB 405.”

Palmer Votes for Pro-Life Resolution Affecting Washington, DC

On Tuesday, April 21, Congressman Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) voted for a resolution to reject a Washington DC directive which would limit the rights of Pro-Life groups and businesses in our Nation’s Capital City.

US Representative Palmer said in a statement: “The right to life and the right to free exercise of religion are fundamental to everything I believe. The Declaration of Independence says that we have certain unalienable rights, including the right to life.  The First Amendment to the Constitution enshrines the right to free exercise of religion.  Whenever these rights are threatened, Congress should take action.  H.J. Res. 43 would ensure that these rights are protected, and I am proud to support it.”
