Ainsworth qualifies for lieutenant governor’s race

State Rep. Will Ainsworth, R-Guntersville, announced Wednesday on the Dale Jackson Show in Huntsville that he officially filed qualifying papers to seek the office of lieutenant governor in the 2018 Republican primary election set for June 5.

“I want to use the lieutenant governor’s office as a bully pulpit for issues like workforce development, improving education, fighting new taxes and promoting conservative causes,” Ainsworth said. “I am a businessman, not a career politician, and I believe the people of Alabama deserve a government as honest and hardworking as the citizens it seeks to serve.”

Longtime education advocate Larry Lee to seek Montgomery School Board seat

Longtime Alabama education advocate Larry Lee, who writes weekly columns and publishes a blog on education policy, is running for a seat on the Montgomery County School Board.

Lee announced Monday that he would be seeking the seat for District 2.

Five of the seven elected seats on the school board are up for election this year, and District 2 incumbent member Durden Dean is not seeking re-election.

State Rep. Tim Wadsworth will seek another term

State Rep. Tim Wadsworth, R-Arley, will seek a second term to the Alabama House of Representatives.

Since his election in 2014, Wadsworth has represented state House District 14, which includes portions of Winston, Walker and Jefferson Counties.

In a campaign announcement, Wadsworth said he will focus on his conservative record, integrity, openness and his transparent approach. He pointed to progress made in the last few years tackling corruption in Montgomery. He said he wants to continue “cleaning up Montgomery.”
