More Scandals swirl around Strange’s campaign

Many Alabama voters were already suspicious of the circumstances around former Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley’s decision to appoint Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., to the U.S. Senate; now new allegations are swirling around Strange, his personal finances, and his campaign finance chair.

State Auditor Jim Zeigler revealed on Tuesday that Strange owns 16 percent of a company that sells VISAs to wealthy foreigners, mostly Chinese.

Shelby Vows to Adamantly Oppose Any Attempt by Obama to Fill Scalia Vacancy on Court

Sunday, February 14, US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died on Saturday.  While still mourning his death, the political power struggle over whether President Obama or the next President will appoint the next justice has begun in earnest in the hours that followed.

US Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) said, “This great loss brings on a great responsibility for the United States Senate.  Justice Scalia’s replacement should be considered carefully and thoughtfully because it is vital to our nation’s future that we confirm a justice who will continue his legacy.  I will adamantly oppose any attempt by President Obama to fill this vacancy during the remainder of his term.”

Sessions and Grassley Criticize Ninth Circuit’s Lavish Retreat

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R) from Alabama and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) from Iowa called on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to cancel a planned $million conference in Hawaii.  The two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Alex Kozinski asking for an accounting of the funds being spent on this Hawaiian excursion.  Sen. Sessions released a copy of the letter.
