State Rep. Danny Garrett will seek re-election

State Rep. Danny Garrett, R-Tussville, will seek re-election this year.

Garrett filed qualifying papers this week with the Alabama Republican Party to run for another term representing House District 44. Garrett, who was first elected in 2014, currently represents part of Jefferson County including Trussville, Clay and parts of Pinson.

Garrett has served as a member of the influential House Ways and Means education budget committee, which oversees drafting of the Education Trust Fund budget; the Education Policy Committee; the Small Business and Commerce Committee; and the newly created Fiscal Responsibility Committee.

Selma, AL – Every time I am stopped by law enforcement, I’m afraid. I recently shared this fear with a friend who is White. He said he understood, but it is very hard for most Whites to understand what it is like to be stopped by law enforcement when you are Black. I understand that difficulty, so I want to share why I’m afraid in spite of being a lawyer, a state senator, a graduate of Talladega College and Harvard Law School, a father of three lawyers, a husband of a lawyer, a grandfather of nine and a senior citizen. Robert Bentley’s order to lie to the State’s Attorney General, the firings at ALEA, the closing of ongoing criminal investigations into the Bentley Administration and a sitting State Senator. But if you read press reports from around the State about the presser, you would be led to believe it was all about an alleged affair between Gov. Bentley and his unpaid senior advisor, Rebekah Caldwell Mason.
