Awhile back, during Dr. Robert Bentley’s tenure as governor, I wrote a column entitled, “They May as Well Move the Capitol to Tuscaloosa.” Never before in Alabama history has a city had a sitting governor and the state’s senior U.S. Senator hail from that particular place. Even with the departure of Bentley as governor, the Druid City has an inordinate amount of presence in the state’s political sphere of influence.

Shelby to Visit Tuscaloosa Young Republicans

On Tuesday, May 26, US Senator Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) will join the Tuscaloosa Young Republicans for a fundraiser.

Tuscaloosa Young Republicans Chairman Dalton Dismukes said in a statement, “We have just confirmed a surprise visit to Tuscaloosa and our club, by Senator Richard Shelby! Seating and space is VERY limited. The cost for the event is only $10.00 and you MUST have a ticket to get in. There will be a lunch buffet, however this will be your choice to eat from as it is not covered in your ticket price.”

Dalton L Dismukes Named New Chair of Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans

On Wednesday, the Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans (TCYR) selected Dalton S. Dismukes as their Chairman for 2015. Dismukes thanked the members present for their faith in him.

Chairman Dismukes said in a statement released to Facebook, “I am honored to announce that last night I was confirmed, and announced as the new Chairman for the Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans. I was glad to serve as Vice Chairman for this organization for the past year, and I am looking forward to moving this group forward as we further the Republican cause of limited government in the future!”

The Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans will welcome Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives Mike Hubbard (R from Auburn) to Tuscaloosa on November 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

In a statement the GOP group said, “The Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans are hosting Mike Hubbard, Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives, at Hotel Capstone on November 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm CST. Although Speaker Hubbard has been indicted, he has stood firm on his word to meet with Tuscaloosa’s community and the Tuscaloosa County Young Republicans.”

Tuscaloosa, Alabama – State Representative John Merrill announced today that the Holt community in Tuscaloosa County has received a $250,000 block grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to build a Senior Activity Center with a “safe room”. The Senior Activity Center will be located on a portion of the Holt Elementary School site on Crescent Ridge Road.

JobKeeper Alliance Says that Alabama Economy is Threatened by Out of State Agenda

The job-focused public interest group JobKeeper Alliance on Tuesday issued a press statement announcing that the coal jobs recently announced will make coal a larger employer in Alabama than the Airbus assembly plant recently announced in Mobile.

Rep. Bill Roberts (R) from Jasper who sponsored the tax incentive bill for the coal mining industry said, “This 1.2 billion dollar coal mining project and the hundreds of jobs it will create would not be coming to Alabama without the incentive bill we passed. The investment Walter Energy is making in our state is twice as large as Airbus, so I think it makes sense for us to offer both companies the same type incentive package.”
