David Wheeler qualifies to run for Alabama House Seat

Thursday, January 11, 2018, David Wheeler has officially submitted his qualification paperwork and fees to the Alabama Republican Party for the Alabama House seat in District 47.

“Today culminates almost a year’s worth of work in preparation to represent the people of House District 47,” Wheeler said. “I’d like to thank my friends, family and other supporters, whose help made this become a reality. I’d especially like to thank my wife Diane for her continued encouragement and support.”

State unemployment down to 3.8 percent

Friday, October 20, 2017 Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) announced that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally-adjusted September unemployment rate is down to 3.8 percent, a big drop from August’s rate of 4.2 percent and well below the September 2016 rate of 6.0 percent. The last time Alabama’s unemployment rate was this low was in April 2007, when it also measured 3.8 percent; this is the lowest rate in recorded history.

Alabama’s unemployment rate drops to 4.2 percent

Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced that Alabama’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate is 4.2 percent, down from July’s rate of 4.5 percent, and well below August 2016’s rate of 5.9 percent.

“After hovering near the national unemployment rate for several months, Alabama’s rate has dropped below it for the first time in many years,” Ivey said. “This is a milestone we’ve been working toward for some time. We announced this week that Autocar, LLC. is opening a new plant in Birmingham, bringing nearly 750 new jobs. As we continue to recruit new businesses to Alabama, hopefully, we’ll be able to maintain that achievement in the months to come.”

Carns predicts Gov. Kay Ivey will run for second term

Saturday, August 12, 2017: State Representative Jim Carns (R-Vestavia) told the Mid-Alabama Republican Club (MARC) that he expects Governor Kay Ivey (R) to run for the position in 2018.

Jim Carns was delivering his State Legislature report to the gathered Republican activists at the Vestavia Library.  Carns said that Senate President Del Marsh (R-Anniston) recently announced that he is running for another term in the State Senate.

Flowers says Bentley appointment is an albatross around Strange’s Neck

Saturday, August 12, 2017, former State Representative and political columnist Steve Flowers (R) spoke to the Mid-Alabama Republican Club at the Vestavia Library.  Flowers discussed the current political situation particularly the Tuesday special election primary.  Flowers predicted that former State Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore and U.S. Senator Luther Strange would emerge as winners of the Republican Primary, though Strange is hurt by questions surrounding his appointment by then Governor Robert Bentley.  Flowers predicted a Doug Jones victory in the Democratic Primary but called Jones, “the weakest possible candidate.”

Zeigler: Last Five Months a Disappointment For Republican Voters

Saturday, July 11, State Auditor Jim Zeigler (R) spoke to the Mid Alabama Republican Club (MARC) at their monthly meeting at the Vestavia Public Library.

Zeigler said, “I have seen in the last five months a tremendous disappointment on the part of our Republican voters in our Republican leaders.”

Zeigler said that it took Montgomery a little time to, “Get used to having a State auditor that questions everything that needs to be questioned and challenges everything that needs to be challenged…I have only been in office for five months but it seems like it has been five years.  I did not intend to become the self-proclaimed opponent of political correctness.  I did not intend to become the anti-Bentley; but that is how it has happened.”
