We must not forget LBJ

Woody Harrelson is amazing as Lyndon Baines Johnson in the just-released movie LBJ.

I’m afraid this movie may not have legs. It’s showing in one theater in Birmingham, and my wife and I attended the Saturday afternoon matinee with maybe a dozen other people.

That aside, everybody should see this movie. I know LBJ isn’t on anybody’s radar these days. We have Trump, mass killings, and so much other stuff to occupy us.

Earlier this week, I visited my mental health counselor. Ever since last week’s election, I’ve been pretty depressed and, literally, sick to my stomach. And learning who Republican Donald Trump is choosing for his leadership team isn’t helping.

White nationalist Steve Bannon? Really?

But this is the process. Trump won the Electoral College, and in January he’ll be inaugurated president of the United States. As I’ve said before, we must respect the process. This is how government works in America.

On Friday, March 28th, former Alabama Senator Jeremiah Denton (R) passed away.

Senator Denton was also a U.S. Navy Admiral and aviator who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1965 during the Vietnam War.  Sen. Denton endured years of mistreatment as a Prisoner Of War (P.O.W.).  During a North Vietnamese televised news conference staged to assure the world that North Vietnam was taking good care of American P.O.W.s, Denton blinked his eyes to spell out t-o-r-t-u-r-e by Morse Code to the world.  Denton was elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama in the 1980 election that also saw Ronald Reagan elected President.
