Don Chamberlain Comments on Libya Crisis

Challenging an incumbent member of the U.S. Congress is always an uphill battle, but Don Chamberlain (R) from Selma is touting his military experience to differentiate himself from Democratic incumbent Rep. Terri Sewell (D) from Selma.

Mr. Chamberlain condemned the attack by terrorists on the lightly defended U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Mr. Chamberlain said, “As a former combat Marine in the U.S. Armed Forces, I am appalled by the unprovoked actions of these Islamic extremists on the anniversary of 9/11. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, including The Honorable J. Christopher Stevens. As a member of the House of Representatives, I would sponsor legislation restricting any and all funding to the nations that give haven to those responsible for these acts, until justice prevails.”

Rep. Chamberlain continued, “The unrest in the Middle East is not restricted to Libya and Egypt. American servicemen and women, government officials, and embassy employees remain in danger. The Obama administration must make it known that our embassies and consulates around the world are American soil, and any act of violence towards them is an act of violence against this country.”

The President of Libya, Mohammed El Megarif told NPR, “We believe that this was a pre-calculated, pre-planned attack that was carried out specifically to attack the U.S. Consulate.” He suggested that the evidence to this point indicate that the attack was an Al Qaeda operation.

Radical Islamists have staged protests in Egypt, Pakistan, Sudan, Malaysia, Yemen, Tunisia, Lebanon, and other countries protesting the U.S and a minor movie that portrayed the Prophet Mohammed as a child molester, a fraud, and a violent charlatan.

Al Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen said, “What has happened is a great event, and these efforts should come together in one goal, which is to expel the embassies of the Americans from the lands of the Muslims.” They are calling for their supporters to burn American embassies to the ground.

Fox News is reporting that the Pentagon has dispatched two 50 member teams of elite Marines to both Tripoli, Libya and Sana’a, Yemen.

Former Marine Corps Corporal Don Chamberlain served two years of active duty with the Marine Corps in the Vietnam War.
