Young Democrats Announce New Chapter in River Region

The Alabama Young Democrats announced on Monday that they have established a new chapter in the Montgomery area. The Alabama Young Democrats announced that their board has accepted the charter of the River Region Young Democrats.

The President of the River Region Young Democrats, Charnell Davis said in a written statement, “There are a lot of kids who were involved in College Democrats, but after they graduated they didn’t have anywhere to go. We wanted to help our Party grow and rebuild, starting with the next generation of leaders.”

Tara Sexton, the Vice President of the River Region Young Democrats, said, “This organization is about meeting new friends, getting involved with the candidates and causes that we believe in and engaging young people in politics at every level.”
The Alabama Young Democrats are an organization of Democrats between the ages of 16 and 36. The River Region chapter includes members from Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore Counties.

The President of the Alabama Young Democrats, Ryan Young said, “Young Democrats across Alabama are excited and ready to get involved. We’ve had new chapters being created across the state, and have granted new charters to local chapters at every one of our board meetings.”

Since their establishment, the River Region Young Democrats have begun holding social events and participating in voter registration drives.

Republicans in Alabama have been extraordinarily good at attracting new voters and growing their base but there are questions over whether that success can continue with young voters many of whom are more liberal on many of the social issues than their parents or grandparents are. Alabama Democrats hope to make a comeback by winning with college students and 20 somethings.
