Alabama’s Leaders Honor Our Veterans

America exists because brave patriots 240 years ago were willing to pay the price to fight and win the Revolutionary war.  Whether it was fighting the English, Indians, pirates, Mexico, Spain, our own Southern States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Chinese Communists, North Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS, etc., generation after generation of brave Americans have stood up to defend the flag, the Constitution, and these United States.  We honor them one day a year on the anniversary of Armistice Day, the day that World War One ended.  Today we remember that day as Veterans Day.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (R) said on Twitter, “One of Alabama’s greatest assets is our veterans. Approximately 8 percent of Alabama’s population serves in the military.”

US Representative Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) said in a recent email to constituents, “I’m looking forward to attending Veterans Day observances in Prattville this week, and I encourage you and your family to look for a ceremony or parade to attend in your neck of the woods.”

Congresswoman Roby continued, “It is my honor to represent a district that is home to two of our nation’s finest military installations, thousands of active duty and reserve personnel and nearly 15,000 military retirees. Working on behalf of our nation’s military and supporting veterans is a top priority of mine and continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”

US Representative Gary Palmer said, “I want to wholeheartedly express my appreciation to each and every one of our veterans, both in Alabama and throughout America.  Our National Anthem calls America the ‘land of the free and the home of the brave.’  A popular rephrasing of that is that America is ‘Land of the free because of the brave.’ It remains free because brave citizens choose to join our armed forced and serve their country sacrificially.”

Yesterday, November 10, was also the anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps.

US Senator Richard Shelby (R) said on Facebook, “Happy 240th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps.”

US Representative Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) said yesterday, “Today marks the 240th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. To the few and the proud, we’re thankful for your dedication and loyalty in serving our country. Happy Birthday, Marines!”

Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan said, “Happy 240th birthday to the few, the proud, the Marines. My father was sent a telegram as he was at Parris Island when I was born – ‘Mother and baby girl are fine.’ Our military miss so many moments so we can have them peacefully.  Hoorah forever- Semper Fi for life.”

Rep. Roby said, “No matter what, I will continue to fight to properly fund the military so our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to meet global threats. And, I will fight to make sure those who serve are treated right when they return home.  It has been over a year now since our efforts to expose corruption within the Central Alabama VA began, but more work remains to ensure veterans receive the care they need and deserve. I’m moving forward soon with legislation to require specialized leaders within the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide direct oversight to and take over the worst VA medical facilities. I’m also working to build a partnership between the VA and local hospitals that will streamline access to care, particularly in rural areas.  Stay tuned for updates on both of these very soon.”

Governor Bentley said on Twitter, “AlaVetNet is working to address ways to streamline the access and delivery of services to our returning military members and their families.”
