Donald Trump Wins Nevada

On Tuesday, February 23, Donald Trump won yet again in his march towards the Presidency of the United States. The New York City billionaire and reality TV star won the Republican Caucus in Nevada by a full twenty percentage points.

Trump repeated many of his themes in his victory speech, “We are going to make America great again.” “This was very exciting.” “I love money.” “We are going to build the wall.” Mexico is going to pay for the wall. I am going to talk to them. We have a trade deficit with Mexico. They are going to be happy to build the wall.

Trump said, “We are going to be the smart people.” “You are going to be proud of your President and you are going to be prouder of your country.”

As of press time, with 96 percent of the votes reporting Donald Trump was leading with 45.9 percent of the votes cast.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) again won the battle for second with 23.9 percent of the vote.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) again trailed in third place with 21.4 percent. Dr. Ben Carson finished in fourth with just 4.8 percent. Ohio Gov. John Kasich finished in fifth with just 3.6 percent of the vote.

Donald Trump has now won New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada after a disappointing second place finish in Iowa. Sen. Cruz won the Iowa Caucus, but his campaign has faltered since then. Sen. Rubio struggled in New Hampshire, but ran a close third in Iowa and was in second place in both Nevada and South Carolina. Governor Kasich focused enormous effort on New Hampshire where he finished in second place but none of that momentum has translated into success in South Carolina and Nevada.

Trump tweeted, “Thank you Nevada. We will make America safe and great again.” Nevada like Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire set participation records on the Republican side. Some Nevada caucus sites reportedly even ran out of ballots from the unexpected high levels of turnout.

According to MSNBC’s exit polling Trump won self-identified conservatives with 38 percent, somewhat conservatives at 47 percent, and 56 percent with moderates. Trump again won self- identified evangelical voters with 41 percent. Despite his immigration stance, Trump won 46 percent of the Hispanic vote.

Donald Trump will be at Black Hall Aerospace (West Wind Hangar) in Huntsville at 4:00 on Sunday. Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio will both be in Homewood on Saturday at Samford University at 3:00 p.m. for a forum hosted by the Yellow Hammer News’s Cliff Simms. Tickets are needed for both events.
