Josh Moon Joins APR

Staff Report
Alabama Political Reporter

MONTGOMERY—This week, columnist and reporter Josh Moon joined the staff of The Alabama Political Reporter. “We are proud of Josh’s accomplishments both as a journalist and an opinion writer and are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead,” said Editor in Chief Bill Britt. “Josh’s dogged pursuit of truth and unwavering commitment to the highest standard of our profession is why I believe he is a natural fit for our publication and will enable us to offer more investigative reporting and political insight to our readers.”

“I am extremely excited to join APR. What Bill and Susan are doing is the future of the news business,” said Moon. “It’s responsible reporting that attacks important issues and brings important viewpoints but does so with immediacy and without the antiquated restraints that often hamstring traditional news outlets. If you’re wondering what that looks like,” said Moon “just look back at their coverage of Mike Hubbard’s spectacular fall. They had it first, had it right and got it to people well ahead of the fray.”

Until recently, Moon served as a leading columnist at The Montgomery Advertiser, where his reports on Alabama State University, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Bingo Wars caused significant discomfort for some powerful politicos. Moon’s progressive stance has also unsettled many of the State’s conservative-based, making him a target of their disdain.

“Making politicos uncomfortable is what we do,” said APR’s Associate Editor Susan Britt. “So, we welcome Josh with the greatest excitement.”

In a marketplace where legacy publications are suspending writers and publishing fewer days, APR is poised to bring the best reporters and thinkers to a widening audience who demand the hard facts online.

“We agree with Josh that his social media audience and column followers will expand our readership exponentially,” said Bill Britt. “This is a critical time in Alabama, as the State is still reeling from political scandals that are seemingly endless.”

“His pen is sharp, and his tongue is sharper and he pushed limits in a style both insightful and inciting,” wrote veteran columnist John Archibald of Moon. “And that’s what good columnists do. It’s what extraordinary columnists do.”

Archibald referred to Moon’s joining APR as a “Moon’s Landing,” and we couldn’t be happier.
