Monday, June 5, 2017 popular Greater Birmingham radio host Rick Burgess is expected to make a big announcement on his show today. Many sources expect that he will announce that he will run for Governor of Alabama in 2018.

Burgess is a Republican who is very outspoken about his Christian faith. Burgess said on the show’s website, “I want to be remembered as a GODLY man who made an impact for the Kingdom of GOD and adored his wife and children.”

Rick Burgess and his radio partner Bill “Bubba” Bussey have been working together for 24 years and are heard weekdays at WZZK 104.7 FM from 5:00 am to 10:00 am. Their show is also broadcast on 50 stations in 13 states and a televised broadcast of their show was on the cable network TurnerSouth and later on Heartland for several years. The TV show is still broadcast by a number of stations in Alabama and Georgia, including Charter’s Alabama Cable Network (channel 82 or 82.12).

Burgess is the author of, How to be a man. Rick and Bubba have written several books together. Rick and Bubba’s Expert Guide to God, Country, Family & Anything Else We Can Think Of’ made The New York Times best sellers list. They have also written, The Rick and Bubba Code: The Two Sexiest Fat Men Alive Unlock the Mysteries of the Universe, Rick and Bubba for President: The Two Sexiest Fat Men Alive Take on Washington, Rick and Bubba’s Big Honkin’ Book of Hunting, Rick and Bubba’s Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage, Rick and Bubba’s Big Honkin’ Book of Grub’; and We Be Big: The Mostly True Story of How We Became Rick and Bubba.

Burgess grew up in Oxford and the show is broadcast from its headquarters in Vestavia Hills. Burgess has been very outspoken about political issues. Burgess’s early endorsement of Gary Palmer, and giving Palmer lots of airtime, arguably contributed to Palmer’s eventual victory in a crowded Republican field in 2014 for the Fifth Congressional District of Alabama.

Rick Burgess and his wife Sherri have five children. The family suffered a great tragedy when their son, Connor, drowned in the family pool.
