Isaac Whorton to seek re-election

Staff Report

Monday, June 5,2017, Alabama State Representative Isaac Whorton (R-Valley) announced that he is running for re-election in the 2018 Republican primary.

Rep. Whorton was elected in 2014, to represent District 38, which includes sections of Chambers and Lee counties.

Rep. Whorton said in a statement, “I have fought for accountability, transparency, and fiscal conservativism in our State government. I am running for re-election because there are still numerous issues that need to be addressed, and because the public needs representatives who are willing to stand up and challenge the status quo, oppose bad Legislation, and support and sponsor good Legislation that would otherwise never see the light of day. I promise to continue to allow the citizens of District 38 to have a voice in the process, and I appreciate the willingness of my constituents to weigh in on matters of importance to this State.”

Whorton says that since his election, he has been a staunch defender of constitutional liberties and fiscal responsibility. In 2016, Whorton was granted the Award for Conservative Excellence by the American Conservative Union, who ranked him as one of the most conservative members of the Alabama House of Representatives.

Whorton has sponsored Legislation such as HB414 (Constitutional Carry) and HB548 (Initiative & Referendum), as well as Legislation to establish term limits and prohibit felon lobbyists. Most significantly, Representative Whorton has consistently fought against fiscally irresponsible proposals such as the prison construction bill, the recent expansion to the Alabama Accountability Act, and numerous proposed tax increases.

Representative Isaac Whorton has strived to fulfill his promise to District 38 to be a voice of the people, and to remain transparent and accessible by regularly asking for and responding to feedback on pending Legislation from his constituents on social media.
