Anti-LGBT pastors, activists will speak with Roy Moore in Birmingham Thursday

One said the same-sex marriage decision would lead to kids being encouraged to practice sodomy in kindergarten and another blamed Hurricane Sandy on gay people and same-sex marriage.

Those are just two of at least seven fundamentalist religious leaders who will be speaking at a press conference for Roy Moore Thursday to push back against accusations that Moore sexually assaulted three women in the 1970s and pursued several others while they were teenagers.

The press conference, which will be live-streamed on APR’s Facebook page, is set for 1 p.m. at the Birmingham Marriott.

The press conference, which comes as Moore remains defiantly in the race despite calls from national leaders for him to step down, will be hosted by Faith2Action President Janet Porter and Restore Our Godly Heritage CEO Steven Hotze.

Porter was the architect of a $400,000 “gay conversion” advertising campaign and her group, Faith2Action, labeled as an anti-gay hate group, has released numeral films that have labeled transgender people as pedophiles and have accused gay people of “grooming” kids in public schools. She has also repeated claims at speeches and in her films that being gay reduces men’s lifespans by 8-20 years.

“I trust Judge Roy Moore — not the Washington Post and Republican Establishment who are orchestrating his character assignation,” Porter said in an announcement of the press conference. “Judge Moore has been a personal friend and a friend of life for decades, while his opponent supports even Partial Birth Abortion, where a late-term baby is partially delivered before having his or her brains sucked out.”

The other organizer, Stephen Hotze, has said kids will be “encouraged to practice sodomy in kindergarten” because of the Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges same-sex marriage decision in 2015.

“Judge Roy Moore has demonstrated the courage of his Christian and conservative convictions by defending the right-to-life of unborn babies, the Ten Commandments, and Biblical marriage,” Hotze said. ” In the face of overwhelming opposition, Judge Moore refused to compromise.  We need a man of Judge Moore’s commitment in the U.S. Senate.”

Other faith leaders and activists speaking at the event include three-time Republican presidential hopeful Alan Keyes — who compared gay marriage to climate change, saying they would both lead to the destruction of humanity — and Rabbi Noson Shmuel Leiter, who blamed Superstorm Sandy, a catastrophic hurricane that his the Northeast, on gay people, comparing it to the Biblical Flood in Genesis.

Other leaders include Andy Schlafly of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles, Pastor Stephen Broden of Protect Life & Marriage, and Flip Benham of Operation Rescue.

The leaders plan to present a letter signed by them and pastors “from across the nation” which says they stand with Moore.

“We are confident the voters of Alabama will not be fooled by suspiciously timed accusations without evidence and will reject the politics of personal destruction led by the Washington Post,” an excert of the letter provided reads. “If the media lynch mob and establishment politicians are allowed to ambush Judge Roy Moore, then they will destroy anyone who gets in their way.  We stand with Roy Moore.”

All of the speakers at the event are pro-life, “pro-family” activists. Moore is set to make an appearance at the event.

“Pro-aborts often ambush pro-lifers on the eve of an election,” Schlafly said.  “They did the same thing to Clarence Thomas and now they’re doing it to Judge Roy Moore.  Alabamians are pro-life and will not be fooled by this latest attempt of abortion supporters to steal an election.”

Editor’s Note: The event is being live streamed on APR’s Facebook page not out of any support for Moore’s campaign, but because APR is under an agreement with Barbee Media Group. APR played no role in the organization of the event.
