Alabama and the Barack Obama Administration had a very tense working relationship.

If the Obama Administration wasn’t suing the state of Alabama, Alabama was suing the Obama Administration over new regulations or rules.

Alabama has a much friendlier working relationship with the Trump Administration. Speaker of the House Mac McCutcheon, R-Monrovia, was in Washington along with other leaders from Alabama and across the country.

“In Washington DC today meeting with Vice President Pence, Sec. Ben Carson, Dept. of USDA, Kellyanne Conway and President Trump’s Staff,” McCutcheon said. “Very informative meetings and discussion with Speaker’s from across the Country. Several presentations and impressed with President Trump’s support for State issues and concerns.”

Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston also attended the same meeting as McCutcheon.

“Kellyanne Conway, Senior Counselor to the President, discusses President Trump and the First Lady’s commitment to fighting the opioid crisis in America — particularly rural America,” Ralston said. “The administration is taking steps to help states address the root causes of this crisis.”

The group also met with Vice President Mike Pence.

“Vice President Mike Pence spoke with us along with Secretary Ben Carson about repealing burdensome federal regulations and President Trump’s commitment to empowering state and local governments,” Ralston said.

“I’ve been in Washington, DC today for a White House conference of House Speakers from across America,” Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell said. “After listening to HUD Sec. Ben Carson and Vice President Pence, I’m more convinced than ever that the Trump Administration is going to give States the flexibility we need to take Tennessee to the next level.”

Secretary of State John Merrill was also in Washington on Monday.

“I was delighted to attend the National Association Of Secretaries Of State New Voter Forum today in Washington, D. C.!” Merrill said. “I was excited to make a presentation on Modernizing Our Democracy to Engage First-time Voters and Students!”

State Rep. Mack Butler, R-Rainbow City, also was in Washington on Monday,

“We had an incredible day today in DC as we toured the West Wing of the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building,” Butler said.
