Lathan “honored” to serve as co-chair of the Alliance for a Pro-Life Alabama

Thursday it was announced that Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan would serve as one of the three co-chairs of the Alliance for a Pro-Life Alabama. Lathan was joined as co-chair by Public Service Commission President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh (R) and former State Representative Mary Sue McClurkin (R-Indian Springs).

“I am honored to serve as a co-chair for the Alliance for a Pro-life Alabama. I look forward to working with my fellow co-chairs, Public Service Commission President Twinkle Cavanaugh and former Alabama State Representative Mary Sue McClurkin, to encourage all Alabamians to vote yes on Amendment 2,” Lathan said. “The Alabama Republican Party fully endorses this amendment as it is an affirmation of our pro-life beliefs.”

The abortion providers have poured large amounts of out of state money int to the race to defeat Amendment 2.

“Planned Parenthood and other liberal pro-abortion groups from New York and California are pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into our state to mislead our citizens on the true meaning of this amendment. It is imperative we make the truth clearly known,” Lathan added. “If passed, this amendment will not change any law but will simply amend our state constitution to reflect Alabama’s support of life for the unborn.”

“According to Secretary of State finance reports, out-of-state leftist groups have donated almost $1 million to the political action committee working against Amendment Two in order to preserve the abortion mill industry,” Lathan said in a statement.

Amendment two reads: “Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, as amended; to declare and otherwise affirm that it is the public policy of this state to recognize and support the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children, most importantly the right to life in all manners and measures appropriate and lawful; and to provide that the constitution of this state does not protect the right to abortion or require the funding of abortion.”

Amendment two was passed in the legislature as House Bill 98 sponsored by State Representative Matt Fridy (R-Montevallo).

Pro-Life advocates are hopeful that the movie “Gosnell” about an abortion doctor who was found guilty of killing later term babies outside of the womb will motivate pro-life voters to come to the polls and vote for Amendment 2. The movie reminds viewers that over 60 million Americans have been killed preborn since the controversial Roe versus Wade U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Pro-life advocates hope that Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh will vote in favor of repealing Roe versus Wade. If that were to happen, Amendment two would kick in and the abortion clinics in Alabama would be immediately illegal.

Amendment two opponents argue that it would harm women’s access to healthcare services.

Voters go to the polls on November 6.
