Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill announced that another avenue is now available for Alabamians to accomplish business with the state through the Secretary of State’s online business filing portal.

Merrill said that he is excited to announce that businesses wishing to register a foreign for-profit and non-profit corporations can now accomplish this process online, without having to journey to Montgomery in person.

This process is another step toward ensuring that the business that Alabamians and those doing business in Alabama conduct each and every day, flow more efficiently and effectively, like the people of Alabama expect.

The list of services now offered electronically by the Secretary of State’s Office includes: Online Name Reservation (all entity types for all counties); Online Domestic LLC Formation and Dissolution (Baldwin, Montgomery, and Jackson Counties with more to come soon); Online Domestic for Profit Corporation Formation and Dissolution (Baldwin, Montgomery, and Jackson Counties with more to come soon); Online withdrawal of any Foreign Entity (all entity types for all counties); and Online Formation of a Foreign LLC (all entity types in all counties).

Merrill says that he is committed to making the Alabama Secretary of State’s office move at the speed of business and not at the speed of government.

The time required to do business filings with the Alabama Secretary of State’s office has decreased dramatically in Merrill’s tenure.

Merrill is serving his second term as Secretary of State. He is term-limited from running for the office again in 2022. He previously served as a state representative from Tuscaloosa where he previously worked in banking and education.
