Official state Christmas Tree to be delivered to Capitol on Monday

On Monday, Alabama’s official Christmas Tree will be delivered to the state Capitol.

This year’s tree is an Eastern Red Cedar and will come from Mr. and Mrs. Ray Allen’s Farm in Bullock County.

The tree will be displayed on the front steps of the state Capitol building. After its delivery Monday, the tree will be adorned on the days following with lights and decorations, which include special bicentennial ornaments.

The tree decorating will comes ahead of the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which is scheduled for Friday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m.

The tree is tentatively scheduled to arrive in Montgomery on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 12:00 noon at the Alabama State Capitol front steps at 600 Dexter Ave.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) is expected to preside over the Tree Lighting Ceremony, which is always a festive occasion. It is even more so this year coming just a week ahead of the state’s bicentennial,

Alabama was the first state in the union to make Christmas an official state holiday in 1836. Christmas was not recognized as an official U.S. holiday in 1870.
