Melvin Hasting is running for Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Place 1

Melvin Hasting is running for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, place 1 in the Republican primary. Hasting is an attorney in Cullman.

“In the 18 years of my law practice, I have experience in conducting all of the types of trials and criminal proceedings that are decided by the Court of Criminal Appeals,” Hasting said. “My experience in criminal trials help me to understand and know the issues that are argued before the Court in cases that are appealed. I believe that it is very important for an appellate judge to be familiar with the type of criminal proceedings that they are charged with reviewing.”

“Equally important as the experience that I have with handling criminal cases,” Hasting added. “I understand the freedoms that we have been afforded by our Constitution and like all other Americans, realize the constant attack on these freedoms by radical socialists, whom want to control our government.”

“The Courts are the gatekeepers to our constitutional rights and we as citizens must make sure that our judges are committed to the constitution and will protect the freedoms that keep America the greatest nation on Earth,” Hasting continued. “That is my commitment. If we don’t fight back against this liberal agenda that is being forced upon us by the radical left wing socialists, then they will become the majority and the very fundamental rights that we cherish will be taken away and the America that I grew up in will be forever changed.”

He and his wife Shea are lifelong residents of Cullman County where they raise their three boys. During the time that Melvin is not in the courtroom or his law office, he operates a small cattle farm, bales hay in the summertime, and coaches youth sports.

“I especially love the time that I get to spend with the youth of Cullman County as a coach teaching them the importance of sportsmanship, respect and hard work,” Hasting said. “As a parent and adult citizen of Alabama, I understand the importance of our conservative and family values in shaping the future for our children. Our actions, or inactions, of today will be determine the type of State that we leave to our children. I am committed to preserving our fundamental rights so that our children can grow up and prosper in a free society where they will have the same opportunities that I did while I was a child.”

Melvin Hasting is challenging Court of Criminal Appeals presiding Judge Mary Windom (R). Windom is married to former Lt. Governor Steve Windom (R).
