Tim James endorses Greg Shaw

(STOCK)

Monday, Tim James Sr., former Republican candidate for Governor, announced that he is endorsing incumbent Justice Greg Shaw (R) for reelection to the Alabama Supreme Court. James said that Shaw has, “The right temperament and the level of maturity this position requires.”

Associate Justice Shaw is being challenged in today’s Republican Party primary by State Senator Cam Ward, R-Alabaster. Ward chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the governor’s task force on prisons.

“It is with reflection and conviction that I support Justice Greg Shaw for another term in the Alabama Supreme Court,” James said. “We in Alabama have learned over the years that when we let our guard down, those whose values and views of the world we as a state do not share can, when given the ability, make decisions that negatively impact us for generations. In such times as these, it is more important than ever to support proven conservatives with experience and clear originalist track records to lead our Supreme Court into this next decade. Justice Greg Shaw will ensure that the Constitution is enforced to the letter of the law, just as he has dutifully executed for the last two decades of service in our state’s courts.”

“Having been in and around Alabama politics for four decades, I have seen both good and bad judges,” James said. “Justice Shaw exhibits the right temperament and the level of maturity this position requires.”

Shaw has also been endorsed by fellow Justice Mike Bolin (R).

Shaw was elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2008 and re-elected in 2014. Shaw was elected to two terms on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals in 2006 and 2006. Shaw worked for Alabama Supreme Court Justices Gorman Houston Jr for 15 years and Justice Janie L. Shores prior to that. Shaw was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1982.

Shaw has been awarded the Honorary Master of the Bench, Hugh Maddox Inn of Court in Montgomery and the American Jurisprudence Award.
