Northeast Alabama Young Republicans endorse Tuberville for Senate

The Young Republicans of Northeast Alabama have announced that they have endorsed former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville for the U.S. Senate.

The club’s membership voted overwhelmingly to endorse Tuberville.

“It is clear that young people want a U.S. Senator who will fight for the issues we care about,” said YRNEA Chairman Dylan Smith. “Mental health, the opioid crisis and education are all key issues facing our generation. Coach Tuberville is the leader we need to spearhead these issues.”

The YRNEA noted that Tuberville is not a career politician, which they claimed further strengthening his ability to be an effective senator.

“Career politicians don’t have the courage to stand for President Trump’s America First agenda,” Smith said. “Coach Tuberville does.”

The group said in a statement that Tuberville’s message of being a conservative outsider is resonating throughout North Alabama.

“Coach Tuberville will be a fierce opponent against the evils of socialism,” Smith said. “Alabama needs a conservative fighter; we’ve got one in Coach Tuberville.”

Tuberville thanked the group for their endorsement.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Northeast AL Young Republicans,” said Coach Tuberville. “They are the future of our country and I am proud that they are confident in my ability to represent them on the issues that not only matter to them but will make this a better country for us all.”

The Young Republicans of Northeast Alabama stated that its organizational mission is to mold the next generation of state and community leaders. The club’s membership consists of young conservatives from Jackson and DeKalb Counties.

The group promised that the club will actively campaign for Tuberville and dedicate its resources to grassroots operations.

Tuberville’s Republican primary runoff opponent is former Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Sessions represented Alabama in the Senate from 1997 to 2017, before leaving to accept the position of U.S. Attorney General. The seat is currently held by Doug Jones (D).

Tuberville is originally from Arkansas; but has coached at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech, and Cincinnati.

The Republican primary runoff is scheduled for March 31, but there are efforts underway to move it out of fear of the growing COVID-19 global pandemic.
