Talladega race has been postponed

Talladega Superspeedway President Brian Crichton announced that the upcoming Geico 500 NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway has been postponed.

“As a result of the Coronavirus’ impact on our nation and the President’s declaration of a National Emergency, we have taken actions to protect the safety of our fans, competitors and the sport’s stakeholders,” Crichton said. “As announced, the events at Talladega Superspeedway scheduled for April 24-26, 2020 have been postponed. At this time, the rescheduled date has not been determined.”

Crichton said that tickets for the April 24-26, 2020 events will be honored on the rescheduled event date, and no further action is necessary if you plan to attend on the new event date. Alternatively, ticketholders may elect to receive a credit for the full amount paid plus an additional 20% of total amount paid to apply towards a different future event, including, but not limited to, grandstand seating, infield, camping, fan hospitality, and Talladega Garage Experience ticket types.”

Crichton said that the 120 percent event credit can be used in a single transaction during the remainder of the 2020 season as well as the entire 2021 season for a NASCAR sanctioned event at any NASCAR-owned track other than the 2020 Talladega Superspeedway race on the rescheduled event date. This option is subject to availability.

Since we do not yet know when the new Geico 500 will be held fans will be able to make their elections when the event is rescheduled. Ticket holders must submit their elections within 30 days following the release of the rescheduled event date.

Auto racing is the largest professional sport in the state of Alabama.

Crichton said, “I want to personally thank you for being a fan of NASCAR and Talladega Superspeedway. Nowhere in sports is there a more passionate and dedicated group of fans who has helped shape the personality and experience of a sports venue. You are simply the best, and your loyalty and passion for Talladega Superspeedway means everything to us.”

Crichton said that the decision to postpone the NASCAR season was made with safety guidelines recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“With coronavirus in the United States, we encourage you to be safe and stay informed of developments through the official CDC (www.cdc.gov) and World Health Organization (www.who.int) updates,” Crichton added.

NASCAR said that they intend to hold all races this season with the future schedule still to be determined. As the COVID-19 plague continues to spread and as governments continue to tighten its forced shutdown of the American economy it is increasingly difficult to envision the full NASCAR season being held.
