Ted Cruz endorses Bill Hightower

Thursday the Bill Hightower campaign announced that Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, had endorsed Hightower in the First Congressional District Republican primary runoff.

Hightower is a former state Senator and former GOP candidate for Governor.

“I am proud to endorse Bill Hightower for Congress in Alabama’s 1st congressional district,” Senator Cruz said in a statement. “Bill is a trusted leader who has fought for the unborn, for protecting our religious liberties, and for fiscal responsibility in Alabama. I’m confident Bill will fight alongside me in Washington as we combat the radical left that is trying to move our nation away from the free market to socialism. I urge you to join me in supporting Bill Hightower for Congress.”

“Senator Cruz has been a trusted conservative fighter who has earned the reputation as a powerful advocate for the unborn, religious liberty, and the conservative values that make us the greatest nation in the history of the world,” Hightower said in response to the announcement by Cruz. “I am honored to have his support for our campaign for Congress. His endorsement is yet another sign of momentum from committed conservatives behind our campaign as we move closer to victory in this July’s Republican run-off.”

The Hightower campaigns says that during his time in Montgomery, Bill Hightower was consistently ranked among the most conservative state senators in Alabama. He pushed for smaller government and lower taxes – even sponsoring legislation to change Alabama to a flat tax.

Hightower has a bachelor’s degree in Commercial banking/finance from the University of South Alabama and a Master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University. Before returning to Alabama Hightower worked with Fortune 500 and other corporations including Emerson Electric, AlliedSignal, Eaton, and Balfour-Beatty. In 2002, shortly after the terror attacks of September 11, Bill returned home to Mobile, to be closer to family. He now runs several small businesses.

Hightower is married to Susan Binegar Hightower. They have three children and three grandchildren.
