State Auditor Jim Zeigler’s son, Win, passes away

James Baldwin “Win” Zeigler, the son of State Auditor Jim Zeigler and State Board of Education Member Jackie Zeigler, unexpectedly passed away in his sleep Friday. He was only 26-years-old.

The Zeiglers’ daughter Maggie Zeigler, a senior at the University of Alabama, made the social media announcement for the family.

“Deeply saddened to announce the passing of my older brother, Win. Please pray for my family and me as we learn how to live life without him. I’m thankful to have been surrounded by friends when I received the terrible news. If anyone wants to check up on my family, I ask that you message me and not my parents as they are grieving over the loss of their first born who they lost far too soon. Win, I love you so much and I miss you already! Fly high ❤️ Thanks to everybody who has already reached out, we appreciate you!”

Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan said in an email to Republican Executive Committee members, “I hope you will all join me in surrounding Jim, Jackie and their daughter Maggie in prayer. The pain they are going through right now is unimaginable to most of us.”

The Zeiglers will have a private family burial for Win at a later date. At this time, they are requesting no phone calls or in-person visits although emails and text are appreciated.

“I hope you will all join me in surrounding Jim, Jackie and their daughter Maggie in prayer,” Lathan said. “The pain they are going through right now is unimaginable to most of us. The Zeiglers are a family of great faith. It is times like these that we should lean hard into the promises from our heavenly Father. We pray that His loving arms will embrace the Zeiglers and they will feel His love along with our prayers.”

Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth said, “Kendall and I are thinking of State Auditor Jim Zeigler and his wife, SBOE member Jackie Zeigler, following the tragic loss of their son, Win. I invite all of you to join us in lifting the Zeigler family up in prayer and asking God to grant them peace in this time of grief.”
