Hi, what are you looking for?

Internships

Internship Opportunities:

The Alabama Political Reporter is a 5-day-a-week news website covering state politics and news. APR has a dedicated staff with a rich portfolio of covering state political corruption, ethics and campaigns. Internships at APR provide unparalleled access to state political circles and unmatched opportunities to gain reporting and political experience.

From the first day, APR interns are given real-world, intensive responsibilities. You will be treated as a full staff member and a professional on our team. Interns do meaningful work across a variety of platforms and roles. Email Chip Brownlee or Susan Britt to find out how you can contribute your talents and gain invaluable experience at a political reporting powerhouse at the heart of Alabama’s political scene.

Who Should Apply:

Any student (undergraduate or graduate) or recent students. We do not accept high school students. You must be authorized to work in the United States and a faculty member must provide a letter of support verifying your ability to handle school coursework and internship work.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are searching for enterprising student journalists who are smart, creative and dedicated. You must have personal and work-oriented initiative. You should be an excellent writer. Interns should be ready and excited to work on a diverse team with a variety of political viewpoints.

You don’t need to know everything about state politics. You can learn. However, it does help to be familiar with political processes and those with political interests should feel encouraged to apply. It doesn’t hurt to love writing.

How to Apply:

You can apply here.

You should provide an updated resume, cover letter and 3-5 writing samples from coursework, your student newspaper or previous internships.

Internships:

  • Reporting intern
  • Copy editing intern
  • Photography intern

When to Apply and Important Dates:

Internships are offered on a rolling basis throughout all three academic semesters. To receive academic credit, you should consult your school’s internship coordinator to determine date benchmarks and other requirements. Those requirements must be communicated to your supervisor at APR. It is your responsibility to be aware of course credit requirements.

Locations:

Interns can often work from home or from campus; however, some assignments may require travel.
