New unemployment claims decreased last week

Of the new claims, 86 percent were estimated to be related to the pandemic.

There were 8,983 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, down from 10,909 the previous week.

Of the new claims, 7,682 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 86 percent. That compares to 30 percent of the previous week’s claims.
