New unemployment claims increased slightly last week

Fifty-two percent of last week’s claims were reported to be due to the pandemic.

There were 7,108 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, up from 6,847 the previous week.

Of the new claims, 3,680 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 52 percent.
