Governor Kay Ivey announced that $3.9 million in state funding would be awarded to cities and counties for various road and bridge projects, targeting critical infrastructure needs in the state.
The Rebuild Alabama Act, enacted in 2019, requires the Alabama Department of Transportation to set aside a minimum of $10 million every year. The RAA Annual Grant Program allocates these funds. For the 2024 fiscal year, ALDOT has $15 million to award, and the additional $5 million awarded will require a 50 percent match from local funds.
“Rebuild Alabama has brought record progress to every single county across this state, and I am proud that we continue delivering road and bridge projects today,” said Gov. Ivey.
This round of funds will go towards 12 different projects, with local funds contributing over $7 million to the projects. Projects must begin within a year of funding being awarded.
This year, the RAA Annual Grant Program has contributed to 39 projects for a total of $22 million in state and local funds being put into road and bridge projects. There is $3 million remaining for allocation this year.
