John Wahl has been re-elected as chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, securing his third consecutive term in a vote held during the party’s annual Winter Meeting in Hoover. Wahl, who has led the party since 2021, touted the re-election as a testament to the strength of Alabama’s Republican leadership.

“I am honored and humbled to have the support of our State Executive Committee in Alabama,” Wahl said in a statement. “This re-election is a testament to the strength of our party and the hard work we’ve put into building a unified, successful platform for our state. I look forward to continuing to work together with our members to advance conservative values and bring lasting change to Alabama.”

Under Wahl’s leadership, the Alabama Republican Party has maintained dominance in statewide elections, securing victories at the local, state, and federal levels. In a state long considered a Republican stronghold, Wahl has prioritized outreach to minority and youth communities, an effort he credits for helping Republicans win four seats in majority-minority districts—an achievement he calls “historic.”

“Over the past four years, we have made great strides in strengthening our party, growing our grassroots movement, and standing firm for conservative principles,” Wahl said. “But our work is far from over. The 2026 elections will be a pivotal moment for our state and our nation, and I am committed to ensuring that Alabama remains a leader in the conservative movement. Together, we will continue to fight for limited government, individual liberty, and the Constitution.”

Wahl’s re-election as state party chair follows his recent selection for a second term as the Republican National Committee vice chairman for the Southern Region, a position that involves overseeing and coordinating efforts across 14 Southern states.

“I’m deeply honored to have the trust and confidence of my colleagues to continue serving as Vice Chairman for the Southern Region,” Wahl said after that election. “The Southern Region has long been the backbone of conservative values in America, and I am committed to building on our region’s successes to ensure a strong future for our party and our nation. Together, we will focus on uniting and energizing our grassroots supporters as we prepare for the upcoming election cycle.”

Wahl has been active in Republican politics for years, previously serving as ALGOP’s senior vice chairman and as a member of Senator Tommy Tuberville’s transition team. He was also a delegate to the 2020 Alabama Electoral College. Outside of politics, he serves as chairman of the Alabama Public Library Service board and operates a professional butterfly farm.
