Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl issued the following statement Tuesday evening in response to Governor Kay Ivey’s State of the State address, noting that the speech marked the final such address of her administration as she approaches the end of her second full term as governor.

“Tonight’s State of the State address was an opportunity to reflect on the direction of our state and the work that remains,” Wahl said. “As Governor Ivey delivered her final address to the Legislature, it was also an appropriate moment to recognize the leadership she has provided Alabama over the course of her tenure.”

Chairman Wahl praised Governor Ivey’s address for outlining a clear vision centered on public safety, strong families and responsible governance.

“Governor Ivey laid out a serious, thoughtful agenda that puts the safety of our communities, the well-being of our children, and the future of our state first,” Wahl said. “From holding the most dangerous criminals accountable, to backing our law enforcement officers, protecting families participating in the CHOOSE Act, and making historic investments in education and rural health care, this address reflects the principles that continue to move Alabama forward.”

Wahl said Governor Ivey’s time in office has been defined by a steady commitment to policies that prioritize families, individual liberty and limited government.

“Over the past several years, Alabama has advanced a strong conservative agenda, from expanding educational freedom for parents, to standing firm against divisive ideologies, to ensuring that common sense—not political trends—guides public policy,” Wahl said. “Governor Ivey has consistently supported efforts that keep Alabama moving in the right direction.”

Wahl noted that Gov. Ivey assumed office in 2017 and will conclude her service as governor when her term ends in January 2027, capping nearly a decade of leadership during a period of significant growth and change for the state.

“Governor Ivey’s service reflects a long-standing dedication to Alabama and to public service,” Wahl said. “Her leadership has helped position our state as a national example of conservative governance, and that record will be an important part of her legacy.”

Looking ahead to the remainder of the legislative session, Wahl said Republicans remain focused on building on that foundation.

“As the Legislature moves forward, Republicans are committed to continuing the work of strengthening our economy, protecting parental rights, defending basic truths, and ensuring Alabama remains one of the most conservative states in the nation,” Wahl said. “We are prepared to work with lawmakers to advance policies that reflect the values of the people we represent.”
