The Alabama Associated General Contractors Political Action Committee, or Alabama AGC PAC, announced last week that it is supporting Rhett Marques in his bid for the Republican nomination in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. The election is scheduled for August 11.
Alabama AGC PAC said its decision reflects the organization’s longstanding involvement in the political process and its focus on issues affecting Alabama’s construction industry, employers and workforce.
“Advocacy is an important part of Alabama AGC’s responsibility to the construction industry,” Alex Whaley II of Whaley Construction in Troy and Alabama AGC’s representative on the AGC of America Political Action Committee said. “Our industry is directly affected by decisions made at every level of government, and it is important that contractors remain engaged in that process. The Alabama AGC PAC evaluates candidates with an emphasis on the issues affecting construction, economic development, infrastructure and Alabama businesses.”
Marques is an Alabama native, lifelong Republican and small business owner. After attending the University of Alabama, Marques and his wife raised two daughters in Enterprise and have owned and operated a local tire and automotive service business for more than 26 years.
Marques has also served in the Alabama Legislature and has received President Donald Trump’s endorsement in the 2nd Congressional District race. While serving in the Legislature, Marques supported the Rebuild Alabama Act of 2019, which increased funding for infrastructure projects statewide.
“President Trump has made rebuilding America’s infrastructure a priority and called on states to secure the matching revenue needed for a national infrastructure plan to unleash American opportunity and prosperity,” Marques said. “To support President Trump’s agenda and responsibly invest in local roads and bridges across the Second Congressional District, I voted for the Rebuild Alabama Act.”
“Alabama AGC has a long history of advocating for the men and women who build our state,” Alabama AGC CEO Billy Norrell said. “That work includes building relationships with elected officials and candidates and making sure they understand the challenges and opportunities facing contractors. Through the Alabama AGC PAC, our members have a voice in the political process and an opportunity to support candidates whose records and positions align with issues important to Alabama’s construction industry.”
Alabama AGC represents contractors, specialty contractors, suppliers and service providers throughout the state and advocates on workforce development, infrastructure, safety, regulatory and legislative issues affecting the construction industry.
