The Alabama Department of Transportation will suspend temporary lane closures on interstate routes from noon Friday, September 4, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2026.
“Road construction will not hinder travelers during the Labor Day holiday,” the department said in a Wednesday news release.
Alabama roadways will see higher traffic volumes during the holiday. The department said the suspension will help reduce congestion and improve safety.
“Safety is our top priority as families and friends travel across Alabama for Labor Day weekend,” Drive Safe Alabama Coordinator Dalton Middleton said. “In 2024, nine people died in crashes during the Labor Day holiday in Alabama. By suspending temporary lane closures, we hope to keep traffic moving and help everyone reach their destinations safely.”
