Governor closes state offices early in nine counties ahead of Hurricane Isaias

State offices in nine south Alabama counties are set to close Friday as emergency preparations continue across 40 counties.

NOAA/National Hurricane Center

As Isaias, now a hurricane, continues toward Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey provided another update to state agency heads. Ivey announced that state offices and buildings in Baldwin, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Escambia, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Mobile counties will close at noon Friday, October 9.

Ivey declared a state of emergency Wednesday for 40 counties as Alabama prepares for possible impacts from the hurricane in the Gulf.

The state of emergency remains in effect until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026, unless a different expiration time is prescribed by proclamation.
