Defend The Vote Action Fund announced that Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, received an A, the highest possible grade, on its legislative scorecard for her support for bills “that will crack down on corruption and protect the voice and vote of the people of Alabama,” the organization said in a press release Thursday.
The 2026 Legislative Scorecard for the 119th Congress evaluates every member of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate based on their support for legislation that reduces the influence of corruption in the U.S. political system. It also considers support for and opposition to legislation that would weaken democratic institutions, undermine election integrity, restrict voting rights or diminish public accountability.
“The only way we are going to have a government that serves the people is if we crack down on the corruption that is driving up costs by putting billionaire donors and corporate lobbyists ahead of everyone else,” DTV Action Fund Executive Director Brian Lemek said. “As the lead House sponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 14), Terri Sewell’s record paints a clear picture that shows she is stepping up in this moment to ensure the voices of the people are heard. It is more important than ever that our elected representatives side with regular people and reform this broken, corrupt system that is failing us all.”

Defend The Vote Action Fund describes itself as one of the nation’s leading pro-democracy, voting rights and anti-corruption organizations. “It has also played a critical issue advocacy role supporting legislation to protect the voice and vote of regular Americans and ensure our democracy works for everyone, while opposing destructive legislation that attacks the core rights and freedoms of American citizens,” the group said.
