Jones endorses Toomey for Alabama House District 47
Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones endorsed Jim Toomey, citing affordability, accountability and his business experience ahead of Tuesday’s general election.

Doug Jones, the Democratic nominee for governor, endorsed Jim Toomey for Alabama House District 47 on Friday, pointing to affordability, accountability and trust as priorities heading into the November 3 general election.
“This Election is about restoring affordability to your wallet and restoring accountability to your representatives in Montgomery. It’s also about restoring integrity and trust. Jim Toomey embodies those values. I’m endorsing him because I have faith that he can win and we can win on November 3,” Jones said in a statement announcing the endorsement.
Jones, a former U.S. senator and federal prosecutor, cited Toomey’s business experience, ability to bring people together and commitment to strengthening middle-class families and workers.
Toomey, a native Alabamian whose campaign describes a 40-year business career, said his legislative priorities include cutting regressive taxes, including the state grocery tax, and creating more jobs that pay enough to support a family.
“Alabamians are working harder and longer and still struggling to afford basic needs. That’s a big problem. The rising cost of groceries, gas, utilities, healthcare, and housing is hurting families in Shelby, St. Clair, and Jefferson Counties. Meanwhile, hospitals are closing, and job opportunities are drying up,” Toomey said.
Toomey welcomed Jones’ support and urged voters to back their campaigns.
“It’s time for change in Montgomery. It’s time for leadership that listens. I am running to be part of the team, along with Doug Jones, that brings it. Doug knows how important it is to fight the tough battles, and he knows how to win. I appreciate his endorsement and respectfully ask for your vote, so we can work together to restore affordability in Alabama,” Toomey said.
The general election is Tuesday, November 3.
