Alabama House GOP reelects legislative leadership
Republicans backed Nathaniel Ledbetter for speaker, Chris Pringle for speaker pro tempore and Paul Lee for majority leader at a meeting in Auburn.

Alabama House Republicans voted Wednesday to keep their leadership team in place for the next four years. The caucus nominated House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, R-Rainsville, and Speaker Pro Tempore Chris Pringle, R-Mobile, for second terms and reelected House Majority Leader Paul Lee, R-Dothan.
The caucus voted Wednesday afternoon as newly elected House members gathered in Auburn. The full House is set to vote on the nominations for speaker and speaker pro tempore on January 12 during the organizational session.
Pringle thanked House Republicans for their support and said he would continue to take on difficult jobs for the caucus.
“It truly is an honor of a lifetime to serve as Pro Tem alongside so many dedicated leaders who are committed to doing what is best for our state,” Pringle said. “I view my role as Pro Tem as being the person who steps up to take on the difficult, less glamorous jobs that no one else is particularly excited to do. I am committed to continuing to be that leader for this body, and I am deeply honored that our House GOP trusts me to serve them in this vital role.”
Ledbetter thanked House Republicans and reflected on his four years as speaker.
“God is so good, and I owe everything to Him for guiding me to this moment,” Ledbetter said. “The men and women of the House GOP are so much more than just colleagues—to me, they are family, and leading them has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Our success these last four years on issues like advancing education, cutting taxes, and helping build the greatest economy in Alabama history can be tied back to one common thread—and that is a shared dedication to doing what is best for the people of Alabama.
“I also would not be here without the unwavering support of my incredible family, and that starts with my wife, Teresa, who has been with me every step of the way. While I am very proud of the results this body has delivered for our state, I am not satisfied. There is still much work to be done, and I am confident the House Republican Caucus will continue building on our successes, tackling the challenges ahead, and delivering results for the people we are so blessed to serve.”
Lee will serve his first full term as majority leader after winning election to the post in February 2026.
“It is an absolute honor to be elected by my fellow House GOP members to serve as their Majority Leader,” Lee said. “The strength of our caucus is not found in any one individual, but rather in the unique, God-given abilities each member brings to the table. As I begin my first full term, my number one goal is to leverage those abilities to deliver results the people of Alabama can be proud of. From our freshman members all the way to House Leadership, I have every confidence that this caucus has the talent, experience, and determination to continue moving Alabama forward. I look forward to what we will accomplish working as a team.”
Alabama’s 2027 Legislative Session begins February 2.
